It was Ariadne, the daughter of King Minos of Crete, whom helped Thesus to escape from the labyrinth with a ball of string only to be abandoned by him on Naxos. She was rescued by Bacchus and shortly afterwards married him. The flaming torch held by the angel represents the fire of love. Fine oil paintings
